My original love of beauty products started with skincare, so it’s no surprise that I’m always adding things and trying new products in search of the [likely unattainable] holy grail skincare routine. The three latest additions have been a bit of a mixed bag, but overall, I’m pleased to have tried them.
As you can see, two of them are actually makeup removers – I had been dying to try the Simple Micellar Water, which I’d been hearing about and could possibly rival the much more expensive Bioderma, which I have tried in the past. But micellar waters aren’t generally my makeup remover of choice due to the amount of waterproof eye makeup I wear on a daily basis. However, I figured it would be a good idea to have a bottle of the stuff around for morning refreshers before going to the gym, without having to go through the whole fuss of a proper face wash. The other use I found is on occasion when I’ve been out all day and my foundation feels like it needs a refresher because I’m going out again later on, I’ll take a cotton round and remove any face makeup, keep my eyes done and then just re-apply a bit of moisturiser and redo my face makeup. It works a treat and this makes everything feel much fresher without having to pull out the real heavy duty makeup remover, which at the moment, is my Super Facialist by Una Brennan Vitamin C+ Brighten Skin Renew Cleansing Oil. This is another find from Winners, and I’ve been using it for about a month now to remove any makeup. It does work great at removing my waterproof eyeliner and mascara, and it smells amazing, like oranges – almost exactly like the Body Shop’s Satsuma scent, if you’ve smelt that before. My one gripe is that compared to the Body Shop Chamomile Cleansing Oil, this one irritates my eyes. It doesn’t sting, but for a good couple hours after I use it, my eyes are itchy and uncomfortable. This isn’t a big enough problem that I won’t use it up, but this is definitely not a re-purchase.
The last item is the Boscia Clear Complexion Tonic. I’ve used the corresponding cleanser before, in years past, and I thought it was definitely time to try the toner, which I use morning and night. It’s got a lovely smell and feels really refreshing and wonderful on the skin, however I’m not sure it does anything on the clarifying front. Also, I find the spray very wasteful. This is not a cheap product, and whether you spray it directly onto the face, or you spray it onto a cotton pad beforehand, product gets misted everywhere. I probably won’t repurchase this one, but it’s lovely if you’re in the market for a new toner and your skin isn’t too problematic.
Have you tried any of these products and what did you think?
